We’ve made it to the NT and immediately have noticed a change to the desert landscape.
Almost no feral animals (we saw so many goats in western NSW and SA), way less road kill on the highways and more tree covers and grasses along the red dirt. It took us a while to realise the big difference (which we notice within an hour of leaving Coober Pedy)- the effect of the dingo on the landscape. Soon after crossing the dog fence, the desert was far less barren.
We knew that Uluru would be a very special place but I don’t think we were prepared for just how powerful it is to experience it close up.
We had 3 days in the park to experience the classic sunset and sunrise views, but also do the base walk in the early hours before the crowds, and walk through Kata Tjuṯa which was a really incredible experience (no photos allowed inside).
We felt very inspired by the colours and textures of the park (definitely some pottery projects to come from this!) and really recommend every Australian visits at some point. It feels like the cultural capital of the continent.
Next up for us to spend 11 days out on Arrernte country doing the other half of the Larapinta Trail which we didn't get to do last year. We are excited to be out in the bush, away from cars and our phones for an extended period. Weather forecast is clear and cool, and with recent rain the track should be filled with wildflowers!
Such a beautiful place! Enjoy completing the Larapinta!
