We had some more visitors last week over the long weekend and took them across the Maria Island, which is a couple hours south of us (+30min ferry). The whole island is a national park and is renowned for its lack of predators which means wildlife is not only abundant, but also out during the day more often than in the rest of Tasmania.
We were delighted to see wombats napping under trees instead of hidden in their burrows, pademelons grazing right outside our tents, bandicoots trying to steal our snacks and less delighted to see the huge brush-tailed possums cleaning up everyone’s scraps in the cooking shelters.
We got lucky with the weather and had a couple of clear days to enjoy some walks around the island. Highlights included the Fossilised Cliffs, and Bishop and Clark for some amazing views as well as many many rounds of a new card game we learnt called Cambio.
